Signature Memory Quilt Kit: Rethinking the classic guest book
A great way to create an heirloom! This kit gets you started on a memory quilt that captures signatures and well wishes! You could use the kit as a graduation gift, birthday present, retirement gift, as a baby / bridal shower or wedding guestbook. You can create an heirloom treasure to remember any special event.
Guests sign their name(s) and can even leave warm wishes or notes of love. The kit includes fifty 5 inch white fabric squares of quality Kona cotton and two permanent fabric pens along with guidance on completing the quilt. There is also a 2.5 inch by 5 inch rectangle option to collect signatures only.
Who wants those wonderful wishes of loved ones to sit in a guest book that collects dust?! You can save the signed quilt squares for later or pick out the fabric of your color choice at a local shop to finish the quilt now. Maybe you know someone that quilts that can put it together for you, but, if not, I can help you with that. Just give me a call. I can guide you through the process of completing it on your own, complete it for you, or provide references to local shops that can help.
Tips for when the memory squares get signed
If you are having everyone sign the quilt at the same event like we did for my Mom’s 60th birthday party (17 years ago!), you should keep some things in mind:
Set up a quilt block signing table
Have your fabric squares and permanent fabric pens nicely displayed
Have someone in charge of facilitating the signing to help people come up with ideas and keep them from signing in the seam allowance
If you are mailing the fabric square in your invitations like I did for my bridal shower (33 years ago!) then you will want to include a writeup on what it’s all about with some guidance around the seam allowance.
How many squares do I need?
If the squares are for a wedding guest book then you should have just over half the number of squares as you have invited guests as most just sign one block for the couple or family in attendance. For all occasions, the general rule of thumb is to have as many fabric squares as you mailed an invite to.
I’d love to work with you on a project like this. It really creates a treasure. If you have questions, get in touch with me. If you like what you see, order below so we can get started!
Cheers, and happy party planning.
