Hot Chocolate Bombs - Make your own!!
Hot chocolate bombs are everywhere right now, you guys! We’ve seen them across all of our social platforms, and I even saw a box of them for sale the other day at a big grocery store! You know I HAD to figure out just how simple these are do to ourselves. After a (tiny) bit of trial and error I have it down. And let me tell you.. you have to try these out. They’re so much fun for family and kiddos, the variations and possibilities are endless, and I really do think they’d make an awesome hostess gift. They’re a great way to spread holiday cheer all winter long.
Recipe (makes 3 hot chocolate bombs):
- Melted Chocolate (chips, wafers, or block): 1 cup chips
- Hot Chocolate Mix (3 tablespoons)
- Mini Marshmallows (3 tablespoons)
Tools (other than what you already have around the house):
- Silicone Chocolate Mold (the one we used here is about 2.5 inches in diameter)
Directions:
We heated the chocolate in a vintage 1970's fondue pot. If you don't have one of those, the chocolate can be melted in a double boiler or in the microwave.
Coat the molds with two coats of chocolate, refrigerating 10 minutes after each coat. (Since most of us are not practiced chocolatiers, the second coat ensures any thin areas are fully covered.)
Remove the chocolate from the molds. If the chocolate is soft it will stretch and break. Make sure it has been in the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes.
Once removed from the molds, the edges of half the chocolate molds can be evened out by holding over a hot pan.
Fill the chocolate halves (that have the evened edges) with hot cocoa mix and marshmallows.
Working one at a time, even the edge of one of the remaining empty molds over a hot pan. Immediately place onto a filled chocolate half. This will glue the halves together. Smooth out the edges and seams with your finger. We used food-grade gloves to avoid fingerprints.
Place the finished hot chocolate bombs in a paper baking cup. They can be stored in an airtight container...no need to place in the refrigerator.
And of course....ENJOY!!
