My 12 Days of Cookies
One of my projects for this month is this fun cookie series. Not only did I get to bake (and taste) 12 new recipes, I also had the joy of photographing things along the way. It’s always great to learn new skills and find new creative outlets. iPhone photography has been great to learn, just in time for the holidays.
Now let’s talk cookies.
100 Cookies: The Baking Book for Every Kitchen by Sarah Kieffer was released this fall. I couldn’t resist getting a copy for myself (and maybe even a second copy for someone else - hint, hint...we love our giveaways!) The book features 100 recipes for cookies and bars by Sarah Kieffer, a self taught baker, photographer, and blogger behind The Vanilla Bean Blog. Although not your traditional Christmas cookies, I’m going to celebrate the season baking my way through twelve cookie recipes from the book...or should we call it “Twelve Days of Cookies”!
Not only do I love to bake cookies but I love to eat them too! I always eat one cookie from every cookie sheet while it’s still warm...each cookie sheet is like a present waiting under the tree. Good thing I don’t work in a bakery! Here are the cookie recipes I plan to bake from the book (the number following the cookie name denotes the recipe in the book)
Cookie Recipes
Thin and Crispy Double Chocolate Cookies (cookie #4)
Brownie Cookies (cookie #9)
Ginger Cookies (cookie #12)
Thumbprints (cookie #14)
Bourbon Sables with chocolate (cookie #16)
White Chocolate, Rosemary, and Apricot Cookies (cookie #43)
Banana Poppy Seed Cookies (cookie #44)
Neapolitan Cookies (cookie #70)
Kitchen Sink Cookies (cookie #73)
Rocky Road Cookies (cookie #83)
Toasted Sesame Cookies (cookie #84)
S’mores Cookies (cookie #90)
Interesting Fact…
The Rocky Road Cookies, Toasted Sesame Cookies and S'mores Cookies all feature Sarah’s famous “pan banging” technique which forms crisp edges and soft centers. Banging the pan during baking creates a ripple effect to the cookies. It has its own hashtag...check it out…#panbangingcookies.
Follow us on Facebook to see how all these recipes turned out. We’ll be showing them off all month long. And if you purchase her new book and try any of these recipes, send a message and let me know! I’d love to hear from you.
Happy December!
